Doty Family Scholarship Fund

After receiving the devastating news that his wife, Norma, was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, Edward J. Doty, the founder of Eagle Distributor, Inc., vowed to someday help in the fight against that deadly disease. After losing his own battle to cancer, his wishes were honored with this memorial scholarship fund that provides educational support for students pursuing careers in the medical profession, with extra consideration given to students specializing in geriatric medicine or Alzheimer’s care.

Requirements:

  • Resident of the State of Hawai’i
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Attend an accredited, two or four year, not-for-profit institution within the US (including US territories)
  • Attend as a full-time student (as determined by your school’s financial aid office)
  • Students pursuing medicine.
  • Preference given to students specializing in geriatric medicine or Alzheimer’s care. Please discuss this interest in the space provided on the application
  • Be a Junior, Senior or Graduate student
  • Minimum 2.7 GPA

National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholarship

National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholarship

In return for a commitment to: specialize in primary care (family medicine, general pediatrics, general internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology or general psychiatry), serve a primary care residency and serve one year for each year of scholarship support (two-year minimum) at an approved Health Professional Shortage Area, the NHSC will pay all education costs and provide a monthly taxable living stipend.  The NHSC also pays for travel to and from Professional Shortage Area sites for job interviews.

Eligible health care facilities include Federally-supported health centers, rural health clinics, Indian Health Service clinics, public health care clinics, hospital-affiliated primary care practices, managed care networks, prisons and US Immigration, Customs & Enforcement sites.

Service areas are in all states plus D.C, American Samoa, Micronesia, Guam, the Marshall Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, the Republic of Palau and the US Virgin Islands.

Application requirements include the online form, proof of US Citizenship, transcripts, a resume detailing work and volunteer experiences, essays and verification and evaluation from your school.

National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment

Are you a medical or dental student in your final year of school?

The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Students to Service Loan Repayment Program (S2S LRP) provides up to $120,000 to medical (MD and DO) or dental (DDS or DMD) students in their final year of school in return for a commitment to provide primary health care full time for at least 3 years at an approved NHSC site in a Health Professional Shortage Area of greatest need.

Deadline is usually Fall of your Med 4 year.

For those already out of medical school:

Licensed health care providers may earn up to $50,000 toward student loans in exchange for a two-year commitment at an NHSC-approved site through the NHSC Loan Repayment Program (NHSC LRP).

Accepted participants may serve as primary care medical, dental, or mental/behavioral health clinicians and can choose to serve longer for additional loan repayment support.

Priority consideration is given to eligible applicants whose NHSC-approved site has a HPSA score of 26 to 14, in descending order. Eligible applicants may receive up to $50,000 in loan repayment for an initial service commitment until funding is exhausted.
