CompHealth Medical Scholarship

We’re offering a $5,000 scholarship to one medical student in the United States. The best video response to one of the topics below wins it all.

Topics:

  • What is your top motivator for practicing medicine and why?
  • How do you find a balance between your education/responsibilities and personal life to avoid getting burned out?
  • What are you looking for in your first job as a physician?

Video requirements:

  • Video must be less than 2 minutes and answer one of the above questions. Video guidelines are included here.
  • In addition to submitting your contact information and video to CompHealth, video must be posted publicly to YouTube or Facebook, with a tag for @CompHealth.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • The CompHealth Medical Scholarship is to be used exclusively for school tuition and related expenses.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0. Or, if your school participates in an alternate pass/fail grading system, a passing status is required.
  • The awarded recipient shall provide proof of admission and enrollment in an institution of higher education.
  • Must be enrolled (or planning to enroll for the upcoming school year) in an accredited U.S. allopathic or osteopathic medical school.
  • If selected, please be prepared to provide an official statement of your current academic status. Your school’s registrar will be able to provide you with documentation that proves your enrollment. Failure to include all required materials will result in immediate rejection of the application.

Award announcement:

The CompHealth Medical Scholarship recipient will be notified on or about October 1, 2018.

Sergeant John Basilone Memorial Graduate Scholarship

The UNICO Foundation will grant up to a maximum of $6,000, paid out at $1,500 per year, for a graduate scholarship. The awardee must be initiating graduate study, full-time, at an accredited campus based college/university program in the United States. A candidate must be a United States citizen of Italian descent.

BayPort Credit Union – Directors Scholarship

The Directors Scholarships consist of six awards of $1,500 each. These one-time scholarships are awarded to full-time undergraduate or graduate members who are currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, trade or vocational school. The money will be paid directly to the college or university of the winner’s choice.

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students. Applicants are not eligible for both the Tuition Booster and the Directors Scholarships. BayPort Credit Union employees and directors, as well as their children or dependents, are not eligible.

Henrico Federal Credit Union (Continuing Studies Scholarship)

Henrico FCU will award one $1,500.00 scholarship to an adult enrolled in and attending a technical school or college as of February 2018. The scholarship will be awarded at the 2018 Annual Meeting.
2018 Application Guidelines:
1. Applicants must be a member of Henrico FCU or the daughter/son of a Henrico FCU member.
2. Applicants may apply for the Continuing Studies Scholarship more than once, but cannot win in consecutive years.
3. Essays must be at least 250 words.
4. ALL completed applications, including the completed essays, must be received at the West Broad office of Henrico FCU no later than Friday, February 16, 2018 at 6:00 pm. Hard copies of the application should be sent to: 2018 Scholarships, Henrico FCU, 9401 West Broad Street, Henrico, Virginia 23294.

Virginia P.E.O. Foundation State Scholarship Fund

Virginia State Scholarship Fund (VSSF)

This fund provides a minimum of $1,500 scholarships to women who are domiciled in Virginia to attend an accredited Virginia school of higher education. Funds for VSSF are contributed by Virginia P.E.O. Chapters and individuals. The number of scholarships awarded each year is based on the contributions to the VSSF each year.

Available to women domiciled in Virginia to attend an accredited Virginia school of higher education on a full time basis. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, have financial need and be well-rounded in activities and have life or career goals that can be met through a specific field of study.  Three current character recommendations are required.

Traumatic Brain Injury Annual Scholarship

Application deadline:  July 1, 2018

This scholarship is an important reminder that each and every person who has sustained a traumatic brain injury is an individual, not just a statistic. Today many industries place profits over safety, such as the trucking and motor vehicle industry, construction industry, negligent doctors, and sports organizations, both professional and school or community-based. We lose sight of the full impact these injuries have on both the individual and family.   A life can be changed in an instant.

A scholarship of $ 1,000 will be awarded to one applicant for the year 2018.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Applicant must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident,
  • Be currently enrolled in, or accepted to enroll at an accredited college or university within the United States,
  • Have sustained a traumatic brain injury from an accident or traumatic event
  • Timely complete a selection application

Selection is based on the overall strength of the application, how that applicant has overcome the challenges he or she has faced from a traumatic brain injury, and goals for the future.

Application requirements

Applicants must submit the following items:

  • A completed application,
  • A copy of a current college academic transcript or proof of acceptance and registration at an accredited college or university,
  • A copy of proof of accident, such as police report, or some other form of proof of the traumatic event,
  • Proof of a traumatic brain injury from a narrative medical report or hospital record,
  • An essay of not more than three pages describing the traumatic event, your injury, and how you have worked to overcome your injury while pursuing an education.etc.,)
  • Proof of legal Residency in the U.S. (i.e. Birth certificate, passport, permanent resident card

The Traumatic Brain Injury Scholarship is to be used exclusively for college tuition, books, and related expenses and he or she is expected to submit receipts in accordance with IRS regulations.

One applicant will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship in 2018.  The scholarship award recipient will be notified of the selection on or before August 1, 2018.  Please note we cannot guarantee disbursement of the scholarship funds for fall tuition.

Women in Medicine – LGBTQ Leadership Scholarship

Deadline: April 1, 2018

Women in Medicine (WIM) will present four, $5,000 LGBTQ Leadership Scholarships for female medical students enrolled in in their first, second or third year of allopathic, osteopathic, or naturopathic medical schools in the United States or Canada in 2018. The scholarships will be presented at the WIM annual meeting, which will be held in Napa, California August 5 through August 9, 2018 with the expectation that the medical student must attend the conference, it’s sessions, and be present to receive their awards. Applicants should be in good academic standing, and have actively contributed/demonstrated leadership for the LGBTQ community.

The application and all required letters are due April 1, 2018.
