Important Information to Know Before Applying

  • Deadline to apply is April 15, 2024 unless otherwise stated.
  • Applicant must reside in or have a UNICO Chapter/District sponsor from one of the following states: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, or Wisconsin. Exception: The Maria and Paolo Alessio Southern Italy Scholarship is open to applicants from all 50 states.
  • These scholarships are for applicants that will continue studies within the academic year 2024-2025.
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Each scholarship offering has a stand-alone application and specific requirements. You can apply to more than one if you meet eligibility.
  • Online degree programs are not eligible for UNICO scholarships.
  • Applicants do not need to be members of UNICO to apply. However, UNICANS and their family members may be sponsored through their respective Chapters.
  • Only recipients are notified after the judging process is completed in late June 2024.
  • Recipients may not apply for any other UNICO Foundation Scholarships while their award is still active.
  • A candidate MUST initiate only one application for each appropriate scholarship. Duplicate entries will be excluded from consideration. An application may be edited, as often as necessary, prior to submission.

Thomas Brown McClelland Scholarship

Awards range from $2,000-$5,000. Medical school students who graduated from a high school in Miami-Dade County are encouraged to apply.  The high school can be public or private.

The students can be recently accepted and starting their first year, or they can be beginning their second or third year.

Candidates can apply all three years of medical school regardless of whether they have been awarded previously.

Instructions and Applications are downloaded from the Rotary Club of Miami website and submitted by mail, postmarked by Friday, December 29, 2023, to the Rotary Club of Miami, Student Selection Committee, P.O. Box 431466, Miami, Florida 33243.

Do not send by any means that requires a signature. Anything requiring a signature will be rejected.

QUALIFICATIONS OR CRITERIA FOR APPLYING:

–Students must be applying to or attending a medical school accredited by the American Medical Association.

–Students must have graduated from a Miami-Dade County public or private high school. –Student must be able to demonstrate great potential and promise as a doctor as measured by grades, positions held in extracurricular activities, published journal articles or similar writings that show your name on the publication, and volunteer actions in the community.

INTERVIEW SCHEDULE: Tentatively set for the first 3 Saturdays in March 2024 –Applicants must be available for personal interviews in Miami, Florida at a scheduled date and time set by the Scholarship Committee. •
