Reider-Otis Scholarship for UVa Students

The Jeffrey L. Reider and Charles F. Otis Endowed Scholarship annually provides a one-time scholarship award of $5,000 to a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) or straight student who has demonstrated a willingness to advance the rights and acceptances of the LGBTQ community.

The scholarship is available for undergraduate (excluding first years) or graduate students who attend the University of Virginia on a full time basis. The scholarship will also consider activity in the musical arts (but is not limited to the musical arts). 

Applications are due by January 27, 2017 and letters of recommendation must also be in by this date.

Selection Criteria:

  • LGBT or Ally youth active in LGBT Equality Movement
  • In addition to the General Scholarship Application, applicants must respond to one of five essay questions which are available on line at the website

The Tang Scholarship

This award provides financial assistance to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (l/g/b/t) Asian and Pacific Islanders (API) for post-secondary Education. This scholarship awards up to two outstanding students annually, a combined scholarships totaling up to $15,000. These scholarships are renewable for a maximum of three more years (a total of four years) provided each student annually meets the renewal requirements.

Must have graduated high school from one of the nine Bay Area counties in California: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara County, Napa, Sonoma or Solano.

Must be ages 17-25
