The AMA Joan F. Giambalvo Fund for the Advancement of Women provides scholarships of up to $10,000 to support research related to women in the medical profession. The first award was granted in 2006. To date, 23 research awards have been granted.
- The principal investigator or the co-principal investigator listed on the Giambalvo application must be a medical student or a physician (MD or DO). Students who are pursuing a MD or DO and are enrolled in accredited medical schools in the United States as determined by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and the AOA’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation are eligible.
- Working alone or collaboratively on the specific research project.
- AMA membership is not required in order to be eligible for this award.
- Proposals will be evaluated and awardee(s) selected based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to: the innovation, quality and/or feasibility of the idea; project/research methodology; potential to produce action, change or more comprehensive studies; and career goals of the applicant.
